Do you have the Power?

Why hello there everyone! Thanks for hanging in there, those of you that stayed. I've recently realized that wow I have gotten way off track with reading. Now it's time to start making it part of my routine again.

I just finished my first book of the year, notice how we are in the second month though, The Power of Six by Pittacus Lore. This is the second installment to I am Number Four. Not my usual genre but it's a good read, not to mention a pretty cool movie.

In the first book we meet John Smith and Six, two of the nine members of the Lorien Guarde. They are aliens, that have been sent to Earth under a charm to try and save them till they develop their Legacies, aka super cool powers, and can protect Earth and eventually Lorien. With the help of Henri, John aka Four's Cepan, and Sam Goode a nice human alien obsessed boy they win their first battle against the Modgs.

In this installment we meet two more of the nine members and a surprise tenth! We find out why these Nine are so special, as in not just the next generation of Guarde. And we find out that Sam was actually right about his alien abduction theory and is a bigger part than just John's human best friend.

I really don't want to say too much, since that would give it away, but I was really blown by this installment. It didn't seem to lag like some can, but instead picked up momentum. I'm wondering how the next book will be.

Do you have Passion?

I just finished the third Fallen installment, Passion by Lauren Kate. And I can't wait for Rapture.

In the last book we were left off with Luce jumping into an Announcer in search of the reason she loves Daniel. All through out Passion we see Luce traveling through her past lives with the mysterious Bill helping her figure things out. She became Princess Lys, an Aztec sacrifice, and an Egyptian slave, to name a few. She figures out the reason for the curse, to see if their love is true.

Of course she finds what she was looking for. Plus a few surprises along the way. Including Bill's real identity, the real reason for their curse, the riff between Heaven and Hell, and why Cam actually is a good guy.

Like the rest of the series it is an excellent read. I can't wait till my kids get a little older so I can reread it without all the interruptions.

At the Crescendo

I received Hush, Hush by Becca Fitzpatrick a few years ago from Barnes & Noble as an ARC. I loved it, I mean you know me and fallen angels. So when the sequel Crescendo came out you know I was all over it (even though it took me a while to read it).

It centers around Nora and her guardian angel boyfriend, Patch. In Hush, Hush we learn that Patch was a fallen angel and that he was going to sacrifice Nora, the female descendent of his Nephilim vessel, to gain his own body. Of course in the end he winds up falling in love with her, and saves her from his Nephilim vessel Chauncey. Which in turn gains him his wings back as her guardian angel.

In Crescendo we find that Nora and Patch have a forbidden romance going on. In a twisted turn Patch becoming Nora's guardian angel means they are no longer allowed to be together. Nora in an attempt to save him from losing his new found wings breaks up with him. It also is an attempt to spare her feelings when she thinks that Patch is cheating on her, of course he's not. But his refusal to tell her what he was doing at her "nemesis" house, a girl that has tormented Nora her whole life. But there's more going on than what the eye sees. Then there's the arrival of an old "friend" of Nora's that turns out to be a Nephil too.

Twists and turns, love and betrayal. Mystery and explanations. We find out some new interesting things. We also see that Patch really is the good guy.

All in all it was a good read, but I did not like it as much as the first one. Not sure if that is my lack of time to read it, or that it just wasn't holding my attention the same way. I still would recommend it to my fellow fallen angel lovers. Especially to those that love a good mystery. But not sure it lived up to the first one.

Borders is closing ....

And I could care less. I'm sorry but I am totally a Barnes & Noble girl. I did go over to Borders on Sunday for the big blowout savings, and was sorely disappointed. The "savings" for their everything must go sale is the same discount I get at Barnes & Noble for being a member. Not just that but a lot of the "savings" were a regular discount for non-members at Barnes & Noble. I did wind up buying 2 blurays for the hubby to realize the next day that yet again I was misled by their "savings" and spent the same amount I would've at Barnes & Noble.

The only thing I do slightly care about is that we have lost another brick and mortar store. I'm a paper reader, not an e-reader. I prefer books to e-books.

The last email I did receive was a little more honest about the savings it said 20-40% off, instead of the everything must go up to 40% off (see the misleading sizes?) email I first received.

Teaser Tuesday 6/14

Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading. Anyone can play along! Just do the following:
  • Grab your current read
  • Open to a random page
  • Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
  • BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
  • Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!

Crescendo (Hush, Hush)"Fun as seeing you fight Marcie was, I figured it probably wasn't worth the cost of you spending the night in jail," Vee said.

Book Blogger Hop 6/11

Hey guys I know it's a been a while since I done one, blame the crappy at the hospital, but I'm back and ready to start blogging and reviewing regularly again (hopefully).

This week the Book Blogger Hop is being hosted at Lori's Reading Corner and the question is:

Who is the ONE author that you are DYING to meet?

This is an easy one I would LOVE to meet the wonderful Holly Black! (Did I shock a few of you?) I think she is fabulous and I love not just her teen series Tithe but I love the Spiderwick books too. I just would love to meet the person who dreamed up Kaye Fierch, the faery but not a faery.

Fall into City of Fallen Angels

Now if you have been following me you know that I love Cassandra Clare's series the Mortal Instruments. Now I did manage before having my little girl Ariel to finish reading City of Fallen Angels and of course I loved it!

Finally we get to see Jace and Clary have somewhat of a normal relationship, at least one were they admit to having feelings and don't think they are related. Of course as usual for them someone has to mess with things. So Jace is having nightmares that he kills Clary after telling her he loves her and he runs away to try and protect Simon in a weird attempt to show he cares about Clary while hiding from her. Clary realizes that her training actually has prepared her for life as a Shadowhunter even though she doesn't think so. Simon is finally coming to terms with being a vampire as a group of demon worshipers chase him around the city trying to kill him. We also meet Maia's first boyfriend that turned her and the mother of all demons. And we find out that (gasp!) Isabelle does have feelings!

If you love the realm of faerie and demons, if you loved the first three Mortal Instruments, if you want to see what happens with Jace and Clary the I definitely recommend this book! It is faery approved!
